Dave Ford prepping a truck in Grand Rapids
Dear friends,
This week at the Southside Hub:
Thursday October 20th: 6:30 to 9:30 pm
The Red Thread Project: Stitching Studio with Lindsay Obermeyer
Saturday October 22nd: 5:00 to 9:00 pm
In collaboration with the Southside Hub of Production, visual artist Dave Ford will install his truck drawing on October 22nd from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. The public is invited to participate in the installation of the truck drawing panels, assisting Ford as he removes the drawings from the back of a truck into the main gallery space. The drawings record Ford’s drive this week from Santa Fe, NM, to Chicago, IL. To create the truck drawings, Ford drives an 18′ Penske rental truck. In the back of the truck, the floor is lined with paper over which 100 pencil-tipped water bottle pendulums document the activity of the 1,300 mile journey. The final drawing is approximately 11’ wide by 7’ tall. During the drive Ford arranges the bottles to maximize the markings and movement of the truck and will upload images and video during the drive at fordart.wordpress.com. This Saturday’s art happening will be the first time Ford has shown Truck Drawings in Chicago.
Come on out and welcome him to our fine city and to the even finer South side!
